On a recent visit to Miami a friend of mine took me to the Wynwood arts district, a neighborhood known for its art galleries and legal graffiti walls. The entire neighborhood was like an outdoor art museum, with store fronts, walls, and lots covered in street art. A few artists were familiar to me from work I've seen in New York and previous visits to Miami. Big name artists like Shepard Fairey, Gaia, TMNK, and ROA covered the area, but it was the diversity of the work and the extent to which it covered every corner of the neighborhood that really impressed me. For a quiet neighborhood lined with old warehouses-turned-artist studios, the art gave a vibrancy and beauty to an otherwise drab-looking community.
